The Boys FYC magazine
Our Role: Creative Direction, Art Direction, Design + Production
For The Boys FYC project, our objective was to create a keepsake, in-world piece that would showcase the layered complexity of the Amazon Prime show and help garner Fall Awards consideration. Staying true to the show’s concept, we landed on a satire of Variety magazine, titled Vought Weekly. The magazine title riffs off Vought, the multibillion-dollar conglomerate that manages the superheroes in The Boys. One side of the magazine features the faux films by Vought Cinematic Universe (VCU), complete with pompous critics quotes and bogus festival laurels, product advertisements and interviews, featuring actual series department heads who talk about their work on The Boys as if they are part of the fictional Vought Cinematic Universe.
The URLs found throughout the magazine take the reader to a faux website; voughtweekly.com. Once there, the site rests for a few seconds on the landing page, then glitches to reveal The Boys logo and then sends the viewer to consideramazon.com.
Vought Weekly was delivered along with Variety magazine and was also sent to members of to HFPA, Critics Choice, and Fall Guild Competitions. Each of the guilds received a custom blow-in “subscription” card along with the magazine that folds out to provide a streaming code and instructions on how to watch.
The magazine is 100% recyclable, and printed using recycled materials.
